Our Classroom
Classroom Expectations
A well run classroom is key to student learning, progress and growth. All expectations are implemented to ensure that students have time to learn, grow and make memories in our classroom.

Our classroom behavior model, allows students to correct their behavior, attentiveness, work ethic before a formal reprimand is required.
-
Redirect - This is an action that makes students aware that their current behavior is either, disruptive to the class or is a distraction to their own learning. Students will be asked to turn the card on their desks as a reminder to correct the behavior.
-
Sideline - Students are asked to move to a pre-assigned spot in class to try to help students focus and return to work after a 10-15 minute move. Students are still expected to pay attention and follow along with the instruction happening in class.
-
Think Time - Students will be placed outside of the classroom and be given an opportunity to think and write about the behavior that is occurring and set a plan to change the behavior and return to work.
-
Letter Home - At this point, students have had three chances to correct the behavior. This will be communication from me stappled into their agenda and it is expected that you will sign and return the notice to me the following day. Depending on the behavior, I may call home in addition to the written notice.
Students will return to class the following day, with a clean slate. This system is designed to help students self regulate and make appropriate decisions about their own behavior.
Homework
Homework is an important part of growing student ability and independence. Students will be assigned homework on Monday through Thursday, unless otherwise noted for test days, or non-school days. Student agenda's will be filled on Monday's with the weeks expectations and any assessments scheduled in each subject.
Students will have homework in Math, Reading, Science and Social Studies. Math will include practice of facts, lessons learned in class and review of past topics. Reading will include, 30 minutes of independent reading, standard practice of strategies learned in class and grammar/vocabulary work. Science will include any work not completed in class and review or study of materials students are preparing to test on. Social studies will include, responding to questions based on units of study and review of information being learned.

Depending on what is being learned, and pacing through units students may not have homework in all areas, but will more than likely will have homework in math and reading each night.

Students are expected to complete all assignments.
Class Schedule
Will be updated as soon as all parts are confirmed.
Birthdays
Students who are celebrating birthdays are welcomed to bring in treats to share with their classmates. Please keep in mind that we may have allergies in our classroom and this must be considered when deciding on the treat. I will let you know as soon as school begins, or am made aware of the allergy.

Please be sure to send enough treats for all students as we do not want students excluded from classroom celebrations.

I look forward to celebrating with students this school year.
Volunteer
I look forward to having you volunteer in our classroom. Volunteer opportunities will be available for class parties, field trips, school events and to meet other needs our classroom may have.

If you plan to volunteer, please take a few minutes to complete the volunteer form on the county website. I will send a reminder at the start of school in the weekly update to facilitate you prepping for the upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Snack Time
Students will be given the opportunity to have snack at a set time each day. Snack should be a healthy food choice. Please do not send in candy or messy food choices as an option for snack. Students will have 10 minutes to eat and clean up after eating. Snack time is in conjunction with our work time. Students may be busy working independently or as a class.

Parents are encouraged to send in snack items for the class. This will mitigate the need for students to have to pack a snack and help with kiddos, whose families may not be able to provide an extra snack for their child. I will send out a sign-up for snack donation at the beginning of school.
